Upcoming Concert: Ikh Zing: The Yiddish Tradition
Preservation New Jersey presents IKH ZING: The Yiddish Tradition, a celebration of Yiddish culture from Europe and the Americas through song, performed by The Murad – Zinger Duo featuring Nicole Murad, vocalist and and Pablo Zinger, piano.
The program will include old traditional songs, favorites from Poland and Ukraine such as Oyfn Pripetchik and Kinder Yorn, humorous songs, ancient ballads, and passionate tangos by Benzion Witler, Abraham Ellstein, and Alexander Olshanetsky, as well as two English language selections heavily influenced by Yiddish culture: Ruby and Kalmar’s “The Sheik of Avenue B”, and Leonard Bernstein’s “I am easily assimilated”.
Nicole Murad is a dulcet toned, classically trained singer, who studied with Hollywood’s great Marni Nixon. She traces her Sephardic lineage back to 1492 Toledo, Spain, and is widely acclaimed for her numerous performances of the Sephardic repertoire.
Pablo Zinger, born in Uruguay from Polish-Ukrainian Jewish immigrants, is an internationally acclaimed pianist and conductor who has partnered with Plácido Domingo, Paquito D’Rivera and Astor Piazzolla, written for The New York Times and lectured for The New York Philharmonic.
The 1867 Sanctuary Arts and Culture Center is wheelchair-accessible through a wheelchair ramp through the gate on the left side of the building. All parking is across the street in the Ewing Presbyterian Church lots, including an inner ring across the street for disabled parking. Passengers may be dropped off at the curb directly in front of the main entrance; please use your hazard flashers when stopped there. Concert parking is recommended in the north lot (by the field closest to I-295). For your safety, please cross at the marked crosswalk and press the yellow button to activate flashers.
