Martin Scorsese’s new documentary about Bob Dylan is now on Netflix
It currently has 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It’s arguable that no other director uses music quite as well as the legendary Martin Scorsese and for his next documentary feature, the Oscar-winner is re-examining the life of an artist he knows very well.
Aside from making documentaries like The Last Waltz and Shine A Light, Scorsese’s No Direction Home was a wonderful portrait of Bob Dylan and as you may know, the director of Goodfellas and Mean Streets has made a brand new feature about Dylan’s iconic Rolling Thunder Revue tour.
Described as “part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream”, the film features on-camera interviews with Dylan and footage of the 1975-1976 tour, when the singer-songwriter performed with artists such as Joan Baez, T-Bone Burnett, Mick Ronson, and more.
In fact, some people have even said that these performances were the best of Dylan’s illustrious career.
Dylan fans will also be delighted to know that a new album, Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings, will also be released to coincide with the documentary.
The 14xCD collection will gather 148 tracks from the five Dylan sets that were professionally recorded. It arrived on 7 June as a companion piece to the film.
As for Scorsese’s immediate future, he’s an incredibly busy man because he’s also putting the finishing touches to his new Mafia epic, The Irishman, which is also set for release on Netflix in the autumn.
Bring it on! The documentary is available to watch on Netflix from Wednesday 12 June.
