Mr. Heifetz was born in Russia. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Be fore coming to the United States in 1921, he was an ac companist for Feodor Chalia pin. He aws a cousin of Jascha Heifetz.
Mr. Heifetz was director for many years of the Farband Culture Chorus, and music and choir director of Temple Anshe Chesed in New York.
He created 300 compositions on Jewish themes, as well as an opera, an oratorio and number of cantatas. He wrote the music for two motion pic tures and put to music the words of “Babi Yar,” by the Soviet poet Yevgeny Yevtu shenko and “Shofar” by Nellie Sachs.
Vladimir Heifetz, a pianist, conductor and composer, collapsed and died, apparently of a heart attack, while accompanying Sidor Belarsky in a concert here. He was 76 years old.
