Rea Silberstein was a composer, singer, pianist, teacher. Born April 19, 1900 in Pocahontas (Virginia, USA) in the family of the teacher Herman Silberstein.
She made her debut as a pianist at the age of seven and subsequently successfully toured the US. Since 1916 she sang in the opera.
She studied in New York. She graduated from the School of Ethical Culture (Ethical Culture School) and the Juilliard School of Music (piano and composition classes). Graduated teacher of vocal and dance.
From 1922 on the treacherous work. Later, she lectured on music. Since 1924 a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (“American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers”.
In 1927, her most famous composition, “Yurzayt” performed by the cantor Yosele Rosenblatt sounded in the first soundtrack “Jazz Singer”.
Rea Zilbert died on December 6, 1959 in New York.
