The Great Salt is a new-age rock group from Joshua Tree, California. Front-woman Eva Stokes is a classically trained pianist/singer who joined a progressive rock band at age 14 and became well known in her home city of Denver. Right after graduating high school she moved to London, England where she was signed by Pete Brown of CREAM fame, who also produced her first album. During this time she toured in Europe and Asia.
She moved to the remote high desert area in 2007.
Bamberg (the Bass Player) and Stokes met in Joshua Tree and began to record what they realized was going to be an album. The name of the band came from frequent trips to the salt fields near Amboy Crater and the fact that when dehydrated in the desert, you cannot survive without salt. During the summer of 2011 they converted a gutted City bus into a mobile studio. We are currently performing in Los Angeles and setting up our first USA tour.
Drummer Esteban Ayotl studied with Louis Belson, was a member of the Downey Symphony and has played in progressive rock bands for many years.
