Barahúnda was founded by Helena de Alfonso with the idea of recreating Iberian vocal traditions. Iberian features are mixed with Sephardic tradition as well as medieval and ancient Arab reminiscences. All these influences come together to form a unique sound, free of unnecesary overloads and with great care taken in the arrangements, making true eclecticim one of Barahúnda's fingerprints.

Barahúnda tries to avoid both excessively traditionalist and forced progressive proposals. And the critics agree that they have achieved it.
