Siegfried Picket – composer, conductor, publisher. Born January 6, 1903 in Vienna (Austria).
He played the violin from the age of 5. He graduated from the Vienna State Conservatory. He worked as a conductor in opera houses and theaters of the operetta in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. He studied at the department of composition of the Berlin Higher School of Music. After the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, fled to Barcelona. In 1940 he immigrated to the United States and settled in New York. He worked as an organist in reformist synagogues and wrote liturgical music. In the last years of his life he taught at the School of Sacred Music of the Jewish United College and directed the choir of the Free Synagogue in Flushing.
Frederick Picket passed away on February 28, 1974 in New York (USA).
