Aviva Enoch is an active pianist–accompanying choirs, dance classes, singers and instrumentalists–and playing for
weddings, receptions and other special occasions. Her current activities include working as a piano
accompanist at the Community Church of Chapel Hill and playing in a duo with singer and
mutli-instrumentalist Jane Peppler. They perform Yiddish folk music and more.
Aviva received a Bachelor of Music Degree in piano at the University of KS (1979) and a Master of Music
Degree in piano at Emporia State University (1981), where she worked as a graduate assistant, teaching
Suzuki piano. She recieved her early childhood certificate levels 1 & 2 from Durham Tech in 2007.
Aviva is a member of the Chapel Hill Music Teacher’s Association, where she has served on the board and have
organized the “Compose-a-thon” composition “playshop for children”. She’s also served on the national
board of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.
Early childhood music and movement is a special joy and interest for Aviva who has taught classes for young
children at the Arts Center in Carrboro, the Durham Arts Council, University Presbyterian Preschool and
Kindergarten, Juhlin Kindergarten, and my own private Musikgarten studio. She has early childhood
credentials I & II from Durham Tech. She has also worked as a kindergarten assistant at Emerson Waldorf
School, and a lead 3-5 year old teacher at Our Playhouse Preschool–both in Chapel Hill.
During the 1980’s and early 1990’s, she had a blast working in public radio, spending more than a decade as
a music host and arts reporter at WUNC-FM. She produced some arts reports that aired nationally on
NPR.
Whether on the radio, leading a circle dance, teaching little fingers to play the keys, or playing piano for
worship– her purpose has always been to share music joyfully and creatively with others.
