Lauren Pomerantz  Biography

Starting to perform at an early age, Lauren Pomerantz has lived her entire life in the context of music. Training for 20 years in music in a wide variety of cultures and a wide span of music’s historical styles, she graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and later received a master’s degree in the field of Early Music for overseas studies in Spain and Switzerland.

Living in Spain for almost 9 years, she lived in close communion with the land with no electricity or running water with a preserved ancient culture of the Balearic Islands.

Ms. Pomerantz has served on the faculty of the SFEMS Medieval Workshop, participated in national conferences and PBS documentaries in both the US and Spain. She has been featured in a Spanish Public TV documentary film.

Spanish Newspaper critics have praised her “masterful interpretations executed impeccably. “She has drawn warm praise for her performances in Europe and America, displaying a deep dedication to song through her varied roles as artist, teacher and composer. Her performances in European and American concert halls, universities, radio broadcasts and national conferences have been hailed as extraordinary and brilliant.

After years of working with Tom Kenyon in the field of sound healing, Lauren turned her attention to the healing and relaxing effect music can have on us all. Lauren created Sweetly Sing a Lullaby for the purpose of sincere upliftment and relaxation. Ecstatic Communion is a CD of songs without words to offer a soul healing that is profound. This came from the request of massage therapists who loved the singing but wished the alternative of voice without specific words. Her latest endeavor is Ocean Healing – Whales Singing which incorporates her love of the ocean and her new current home of Maui. Lauren wished to honor the Maui Humpbacks whales with their remarkable singing voices.

Her albums “Jewels of the Sephardim” and “Wings of Time” and the exciting, live concert recording “The Radiance of Faith” are performed with internationally acclaimed instrumentalists of the Ensemble Alcatraz (Elektra/Nonesuch): Kit Higginson (recorder, psaltry) Shira Kammen (vielle, rebec) and Peter Maund (percussion). These albums have received numerous accolades, praise and rave reviews from such highly noted critics as Joseph McLellan of the Washington Post, Heuwell Tircuit, Chief writer of inTune classical journal, Richard Burke, of Fanfare, an Audiofile publications, Allan Kozninn, reviewer for The New York Times, Norman Weinstein of the Boston Phoenix and Allan Ulrich of the San Francisco Examiner.

Tree of Life (Healing through the Spheres of Kaballah) is her recording that marks a distinct turn to personal songwriting with a universally spiritual and meditative effect. The songs are all deeply soothing by intention and illuminate the mystical tradition of the Kaballah’s Tree of Life. Exquisite musicians join her on this recording as well: Aryeh Frankfurter (Celtic harpist/viola/violin/cello) , Danny Caron (guitarist extradonaire), Norbert Satchel (Tibetan flute) and Steve Gardner (ambiant keyboard).
